Kyle Mansfield, an Applied Behavior Analysis Assistant with the district’s Steps to Success program, was honored today by Lieutenant Gov. Susan Bysiewicz and State Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker with the 2022 Anne Marie Murphy Paraeducator of the Year award.

The ceremony, with health and safety protocols in place, took place in the auditorium of Carmen Arace Middle school. Para professionals play a critical role in supporting certified teachers in developing the academic, social and emotional needs of students, many of whom require additional educational support.

Mr. Mansfield is in his fifth year working with our district. He is a former supervisor with the state Department of Developmental Services. He began his career in the human services sector 40 years ago, working with at-risk students.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mansfield talked about the importance of having high expectations and a connection to students, noting that when the correct developmental strategies are in place the child will eventually thrive.
