The school district presented the Bloomfield Board of Education with its new Portrait of a Graduate Strategic Plan. The blueprint, discussed at a board meeting May 10, will significantly enhance the Pre-K to Grade 12 transitions and curriculum to better prepare students for college and meaningful careers.
The collaborative work - involving families, community and faith-based leaders, business people and Higher Education representatives - began in March of 2021.
The POG team identified four critical competencies for town children – that they become:
- Problem Solvers
- Critical Thinkers
- Communicators
- Adaptable (to change and challenges)
“This is a significant new development for our school district because it helps us better define how we prepare students for the rigors and challenges of a 21st Century global economy,’’ said
Superintendent of Schools Dr. James Thompson, Jr. He noted that sub-committees were formed and will continue to address several areas identified by the community:
“We are excited about the potential and possibilities of these new endeavors” Thompson said. “It moves us closer to becoming a district of Excellence.”
School Board Chairman Donald Harris, Jr. sees the POG as a tool that can provide “transformative opportunities for students and help them become more productive members of the community. The potential for expanding community and corporate partnerships is also very exciting because it will contribute to students reaching their full potential.”
