BLOOMFIELD ADULT-ED WELCOMES STUDENTS FOR SPRING

Bloomfield Adult and Continuing Education is registering eligible students for GED high-school completion, English as a Second Language (ESL), and US Citizenship Preparation. Classes are offered free to Bloomfield residents. The 12-week sessions begin Feb. 6.  Classes meet at Carmen Arace Middle School, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Classes are:

  • Three nights per week for GED (Monday-Wednesday)
  • Twice a week for ESL (Monday and Tuesday)
  • Once a week for Citizenship (Wednesday).

Walk-in registrations are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31 and Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  The office is located at 390 Park Avenue in the Carmen Arace Middle School, Room 501.

Adult Ed serves the Bloomfield community by providing opportunities to working adults, who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and ages, the opportunity to attend evening classes.  Students must be at least 18 years old.

Classes for non-native speakers of English are conducted in English, covering life/work communication skills and provide a foundation for acquiring everyday English language skills. ESL students are placed at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.  More advanced students can progress to Reading and Writing in the Adult Basic Education class (ABE).

A certified school counselor is on staff and available six hours per week to advise students about careers and college.  All instructors hold current state certifications with endorsements in Adult Education.

In addition to state-mandated fields of study, Bloomfield Adult Ed offers a small number of supplemental or “leisure” classes.  Examples of these classes, offered for a nominal fee, include Mindfulness Meditation, Financial Security and Learning to Play the Ukulele.  For more information, call 860-286-2637.
