Superintendent's Memo

Superintendents memo header

Dear Bloomfield Community,

As we prepare for the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, I want to thank you for your cooperation, resiliency, and adaptability.

These past two years we have seen our educational landscape dramatically altered by COVID-19. As the Superintendent, I am very proud that Bloomfield continues to promote high expectations for all students despite these challenges.

Bloomfield is a school district with clear aspirations for excellence in academics, athletics and the arts.

As part of our ongoing efforts to prepare students for college and meaningful careers, Bloomfield Public Schools launched a collaborative, town-wide effort to help sharpen the district's vision of a successful high school graduate through our Portrait of a Graduate initiative. This vision was developed in collaboration with the greater Bloomfield community.

The creation of our Portrait of a Graduate Strategic Plan helps the district define how it will prepare students for the challenges ahead and to prosper in a global economy. As part of our district initiative, we have undertaken plans in several identified areas such as talented and gifted, preschool programming, early childhood literacy and career pathways. Our work for coming months will be to focus on the implementation of the strategic plan.

We look forward to sharing updates with our community on the following 2022-2023 district goals:

  • Developing an Early Literacy Academy
  • Expanding corporate partnerships to support career pathways for high school students
  • Implementing district-wide strategies that position our students for academic success as part of our Portrait of a Graduate plan.

We are excited to welcome back Bloomfield students on the first day of school - August 31, 2022.

Sincerely,

James Thompson, Jr., Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
